A bookmark to inform kids and adults alike about cancer has been placed in schools and libraries across Chatham-Kent.

The bookmark was developed through a partnership between Susan and Myles McLellan and Qua Vadis pizza.

Koul Stylianou of Qua Vadis Pizza on St. Clair St., said he became involved with the project because "it's a great cause." "It will help to encourage open and positive discussion in schools about childhood cancer," Susan McLellan said.

"It's important for peers to understand that most of the students that return to school after a diagnosis just want to get back to their lives."

The one side of the bookmark contains information letting kids know that having cancer is alright and you can still be friends, said Myles McLellan, 12, who has been ill with cancer for several years.

The reverse side of the bookmark offers cancer prevention tips, such as to make better choices in food, health care and the environment.

The bookmark also doubles as a ruler.
