Myles McLellan
Myles is an 11-year-old Chatham boy who was diagnosed with medulloblastoma more than two years ago. Medulloblastoma is a malignant brain tumour, one that moves quickly and offers little hope of recovery. He has been through surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. The cancer and subsequent treatments have taken from him simple things that other children take for granted: hair, hearing, balance, and tragically, friends. Through these trials, Myles has maintained an amazing attitude, and has found the power to speak out about his experience and has become a champion for the fight against cancer.
The Robert and Maggie Bras and Family New Drug Development Program
Through discussions with Maggie Bras, President of The Robert and Maggie Bras and Family New Drug Development Program, ARC was introduced to the story of Myles. It became clear that Myles' story was a perfect match for the Bras Program, dedicated to finding new, less harmful drugs to battle cancer.
ARC
ARC's initiative is to tell the story of Myles through the power of film. By matching the talent of a specific filmmaker to the mandate of a specific charity, ARC will enable the creation of unique pieces of art that will provide an exciting new avenue for raising awareness as well as funds.
The finished project will include both the short movie as well as a documentary detailing key aspects of Myles' struggle, the making of the movie, and hopefully some follow-up including the premiere screening of the movie with Myles in attendance.
Once completed, the finished product will hopefully be used by both the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation and The Robert and Maggie Bras and Family New Drug Development Program as an educational entertainment tool. We envision this being used in schools, hospitals, even offices across the country to promote understanding and tolerance.
