Shawn was the only adult in the Hero to Hero calendar, produced by Myles’ Miracle Mission-CANcer Assist. He was chosen to be there by Myles, as he and Myles became close friends, they where each others hero. Making a pact with each other to beat cancer.
At age 24 Shawn got Wilm’s Tumor, a cancer that normally strikes 3 year olds. While in treatment he and Myles became great friends.
To know Shawn was to love him. Shawn would do anything for anyone. He was generous to a fault. He was talented and skilled with his hands whether it be automotive, carpentry, or artistic. He was very creative and always had a project going on. There was nothing he couldn’t do or least attempt. So when Shawn said cancer couldn’t get him we all believed him.
Shawn was always positive. Nothing would ever get him down, not even the 5th return of cancer. He would not admit defeat even after “last rights”. His Hero to Hero photo was taken one month later. The next day his last words were “ I’m Okay”.
Shawn was always fun to hang out with. Only Shawn could make you laugh on the outside while you cried on the inside. He would want his friends to carry on and not to cry. Just smile and think of the good times. He loved to hunt and fish and was quite good at it, or so he said. His favorite like was being Delpine’s “New Daddy”! His biggest dislike was drivers who drank. Shawn would often drink water so he could see his friends got home safe.
He didn’t care what others thought. He lived life to the fullest. Shawn never complained or asked why me. Shawn touched a lot of lives and will never be forgotten. He was my hero each day of his life and even through his passing, he remains a true hero.
